What is a-tisket? Have you ever seen a-tasket? And what do they have to do with love letters? From the nursery rhymes and kids songs collection by Songs with Simon.

A-tisket, a-tasket.

A green and yellow basket.

I wrote a letter to my love

And on the way I dropped it.

I dropped it,

I dropped it,

And on the way I dropped it.

A little boy he picked it up

And put it in his pocket.

Educational Activities for A-Tisket, A-Tasket Nursery Rhyme

  • Let’s try writing a letter. Grab a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. On the first line write, “Dear _____,” and add the name of the person you want to write to. On the next line, tell them something about your day or about an activity you’re enjoying at the moment. Maybe you could tell them about Songs with Simon, the kids song channel that doesn’t mind shameless plugging in its educational activities! When you’ve finished writing, finish by saying something like, “Your friend, ______,” and fill in your name.
  • Find a basket and decorate the handle like in A-Tisket, A-Tasket. You’ll need some green and yellow crepe paper or cellophane. Unroll the green paper around the handle, leaving a gap so that you can do the same with the yellow paper.
  • Let’s talk – Have you ever had a secret, only for someone else to discover it? How did you feel when they told you that they knew? Do you think it’s okay to keep secrets? Has there ever been a time when you felt left out by other children who were keeping secrets?
