Lyrics to The Ants Go Marching

The ants go marching one by one.
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The ants go marching one by one.
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The ants go marching one by one;
The little one stops to suck his thumb,
And they all go marching down into the ground
To get out of the rain.
Boom, boom, boom, boom!

The ants go marching two by two.
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The ants go marching two by two.
Hoorah! Hoorah!
The ants go marching two by two;
The little one stops to tie his shoe,
And they all go marching down into the ground
To get out of the rain.
Boom, boom, boom, boom!

Facts about ants

  • Ants live in colonies which are made up mainly of female worker and soldier ants.
  • Ant colonies usually have a few male ants, called “drones”, who hang out with the queen ant.
  • There are ants on almost every piece of land on earth, with Antarctica being the main exception. They can modify their environment and are great at working together. While they may not march in rows like this nursery rhyme indicates, they are great at finding food and leading other ants to it.
